Spaghetti with a roux sounded right up my alley, so when I saw this recipe I knew I had to give it a try. My family approved, and itβs absolutely going to be a new staple in our house!! π
1. In a separate pot, make a dark brown roux with the oil and flour. On a medium low heat stir constantly until chocolate brown, then set aside. Note: you must use a high-heat oil β butter will burn.
2. In a large pot, brown the ground beef. Season with garlic salt, black pepper, and Britscookin Garlic & Herb.
3. Add in the diced bell pepper and onion. Cook until tender.
4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
5. Add the tomato paste and let it brown for a minute or two to build flavor.
6. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and water. Add the beef base.
7. Mix in the prepared roux until fully combined.
8. Season again with Cajun, Garlic & Herb, black pepper, and garlic salt.
9. Reduce heat and let simmer low and slow for at least 1 hour (2 for best flavor).
10. Toward the end add in sugar and adjust seasoning as needed.
11. Serve thickened sauce over cooked spaghetti.
